About the Programme “HORIZON’s 2020 SME INSTRUMENT”
Are you a highly innovative, ambitious and passionate small or medium-sized business with global ambitions and need mentorship and funding?
The next deadline for submitting applications (cut-off date) for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the “Horizon’s 2020 SME Instrument (SME Instrument)” is on 17.09.2015.
The SME Instrument constitutes one of the activities of the EU funding Programme «Horizon 2020», which aims to fund innovative projects that will help SMEs grow and expand their activities.
The SME Instrument is implemented in three phases with the aim of transforming disruptive ideas into concrete, innovative solutions with a European and global impact: (SME Instrument).
Phase 1 [Concept & Feasibility Assessment]

SMEs may apply to either Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the call. It is recommended however to apply firstly to Phase 1 as this will facilitate procedures towards Phase 2 of the call.
Themes of “HORIZON’s 2020 SME INSTRUMENT”
The SME Instrument will sponsor SMEs operating within 13 themes:
- High risk ICT innovation
- Nanotech, or other advanced tech for manufacturing and materials
- Space research and development
- Clinical research for the validation of diagnostics devices and biomarkers
- Sustainable food production and processing
- Blue growth
- Low carbon energy systems
- Greener and more integrated transport
- Eco-innovation and sustainable raw material supply
- Urban critical infrastructure
- Biotechnology-based industrial processes
- Mobile e-government applications (2015 only)
- SME business model innovation (2015 only)
